How Organizing Can Help You Learn at School

"Ugh, I can't find my nature journal!" Rachel exclaimed.

Running around the house in panic, Rachel felt frustrated.

Strewn across the floor were books, blocks, and bins of toys.

Rachel hated cleaning up, and last night after playing, she'd avoided it.

BUZZ!

Ten minutes left until the bus was to arrive.

"Mom, have you seen my nature journal?"

"I'm sorry, honey, I haven't." Mom said.

Rachel had an idea: the basement. There, Mom kept an extra stack of notebooks for everyone in her family - in their own bin.

Viola! A new notebook. Perfect for today's bug study in science lab!

"I found one, Mom!" Rachel felt relieved. "And I promise to clean up and organize my toys from now on."

Why organization matters

When our notes and school supplies are organized, it is easier to spend time learning rather than on finding a lost item. Plus, we can often avoid the frustration of an agonizing search!

What tools can help you stay organized?

Here are a few tools to consider:

  • Desk organizers
  • Clips
  • Folders
  • Binders
  • A note-taking system, such as Cornell notes
  • Pencil boxes or cases
  • Cubbies
  • Rolling carts
  • Charts
  • A bookcase or hanging shelf
  • Closets organizers
  • Bins
  • Labels

Try this!

Think of a space at school or at home that is a bit messy. Choose a tool from the list above to make the space more organized.
