How Healthy Relationships Can Help You Learn at School

Did you know that your relationships with others can affect your learning in school?

It's true! Having good relationships helps us learn better.

Why relationships matter

When others support us, we can handle problems more easily. This helps our learning by allowing us to focus more on tasks in front of us than on hard things in life.

Who can support your learning?

Here are a few people to consider:

  • Friends
  • Classmates
  • Parents
  • Teachers
  • Counselors
  • Tutors
  • Mentors
  • Youth pastors
  • Teammates
  • Extended family members
  • Troop leaders
  • Babysitters

How to build healthy relationships

  • Treat other people's bodies, feelings, ideas, and opinions with kindness
  • Give others freedom to make their own choices
  • Respect other people's belongings
  • Be honest with your friends
  • Only speak true things about friends
  • Celebrate your friends' successes and encourage them

Try this!

Use the list above to brainstorm some people in your life who might support you so that you can learn!
Example: a friend who could watch a pet during after-school tutoring!
